Silkworm Rearing Checklist

Housing

For small amounts of Silkworms (50-100) a shoebox is an ideal living area. If you want to raise large amounts, either get a breeding tray or use multiple shoeboxes.

Silkworm eggs

When it is clear that you have a food source, source your eggs from a friend or from us. After you have reared Silkworms, you will then be able to use your own eggs for future generations.

Paper

We suggest you line the bottom of your living area with paper so that frass can easily be removed, in order to prevent the build-up of mould and consequential diseases.

Food source

Before even deciding to start raising Silkworms, make sure you have either; an adequate supply of Mulberry leaves (warmer months) or artificial Silkworm food – Silkworm Chow (colder months, when the mulberry tree loses its leaves).
